Dr Robert Adler, MB,BS, PhD, MCrim (Forensic Psychology), FRACP, FRANZCP
Bob Adler is a child and adolescent psychiatrist with a particular interest in forensic aspects of child and adolescent psychiatry.
After completing his medical degree and postgraduate studies in psychiatry in Sydney, Dr Adler was a senior lecturer in child and adolescent psychiatry at the University of Newcastle, NSW. Between 1985 and 1998, he was the Professor and Director of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the Royal Children's Hospital and the University of Melbourne. Between 1998 and 2010, Dr Adler was a member of the Medical Practitioners Board of Victoria, becoming President in 2008. He was also a consultant forensic psychiatrist at the Melbourne Youth Justice Centre between 1999 and 2013.

Dr Adler has now ceased doing assessments for the Federal and Family Court of Australia. He will still be available to give evidence, if required. Dr Adler retired from clinical practice in November 2020 and is no longer accepting clinical referrals.
Dr Adler is an Independent Medical Examiner and and is continuing to conduct civil assessments of children and adolescents under the Transport Accident Act and the Wrongs Act.

Dr Adler is based in Melbourne however, he is happy to consider requests to travel interstate. Most assessments are conducted on-line however, face to face appointments can be arranged on request particularly for children under 10 years of age and families requiring the help of an interpreter. Home-based assessments will be considered however, they do involve significant additional costs.
